DL man sentenced for check forgery

Andrew Timothy Oswald, 20, of 29010 McHugh Road, Detroit Lakes has been sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of offering a forged check.

According to court records: On June 12 he used a stolen check to buy a $426 TV set from Pamida. He was arrested when he tried to return the TV set. He was wanted in two counties on felony theft/forgery charges.

He was also sentenced on an identical charge for being involved with the passing of nine forged checks at area businesses in May.

The total amount was for about $400. He passed the forged checks along with a girlfriend, and they stole them from a relative of the girlfriend.

District Judge Joe Evans sentenced him to 13 months in prison, execution of sentence stayed five years. He was placed on supervised probation for five years.

He was ordered to serve 120 days in jail, with credit for 89 days served. He was fined $500 plus court fees.

He must get a mental health evaluation and follow the recommendations.
